SAFS provides the following services for families in the Sylvania School District:

  • F.U.N. (Families United in Nutrition)┬áProgram
  • F.I.N.E. (Fitness/Friendship, Independence, Nutrition, Exercise/Education) Folks Program – specifically for Senior Citizens
  • Christmas Adopt a Family
  • Shop with a Local Hero
  • Senior Citizens Government Commodities

***Current Print out from Jobs & Family Services will suffice for POI, and Birth Certificates for children as long as everyone is listed on the print out. You may also ask them for POA print out.

 

We provide a few days supply of non-perishable food to help families get through a tough time.

Emergency Food


SAFS served 2200 individuals (2015)
We dispense commodities to eligible applicants the first Monday of every month.

Government Commodities Distribution Site


SAFS served 1400 individuals (2014)
Programs are offered on a very limited basis. Clients must present either a shut-off or eviction notice and have a means of paying future charges.

Utility and Rental Assistance


SAFS served 125 individuals (2014)
A weekly food supplemental distribution program designed to supply extra products to families.

Harvest Program


SAFS served 7500 individuals (2015) Sponsored by Promedica Flower Hospital
Applicants must pre-register for baskets. Thanksgiving baskets contain all of the items to make a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Christmas baskets contain meals for the holiday and appropriate gifts for children.

SAFS served 1,412 individuals (2012)
Staff work closely with other agencies to provide services not offered by SAFS. Families will be referred to other agencies based on need.

Information and Referral Services


SAFS served 200 individuals (2014)
Each year SAFS provides students in the Sylvania schools with NEW backpacks filled with the tools they need to start the school year.

Backpack School Supply Program


SAFS served 275 kids (2014)
The Sylvania Police along with Sylvania Fire & Rescue donate their time every Christmas season to make the lives of the Sylvania children in need a little brighter.

Shop with a Local Hero


Meijers & Walmart donate gift certificates for the children to purchase gifts for themselves or their family. They are escorted by a local hero during their shopping trip. Giving the kids a mentor in the local community to look up to.
