Get Involved with SAFS

Sylvania Area Family Services (SAFS) offers programs and services to  families and children in the greater Sylvania area. SAFS relies heavy on our volunteer base, it is a HUGE part of our mission to help strengthen Sylvania one family at a time!!  We are looking for adults and high school students, as well as youth groups (with adults to supervise).

Here are some ideas on how you can help:

  • Mentor an elementary student during our afterschool program, which runs 3:00-6:00 pm, Monday though Thursday.
  • Grab a group of classmates and form a work group– to make emergency food kits, personal hygiene kits, landscape the grounds, or work in our Choice Pantry!
  • Hold a nonperishable food or personal care product donation drive at your school or organization to benefit the SAFS choice food pantry.
  • Collect pocket change during a semester with donation jars and specify the money to go toward an SAFS project.

Volunteer opportunity:

This volunteer event will help to prep the SAFS Children’s Garden– rototilling, leveling the soil, burying pallets for raised garden beds, etc.– all the work necessary to set up the garden for planting.  As this will be a very labor-intensive day, we’re asking volunteers to bring work gloves, garden tools, etc. and dress in old clothes!
