The History of Sylvania Area Family Services
For 40 years Sylvania Area Family Services has met the quality of life issues in the Sylvania community with services for at-risk youth and families in need.
Founded in 1967 by a group of concerned citizens in the Huntington Farms neighborhood of Sylvania, programming was originally offered at two area churches. Through generous donations the program was able to relocate to a facility on Marshall Road in 1974. A second buliding was added in 1995 in response to the growing demand for services.
Huntington Community Center was re-named Sylvania Area Family Services in 2003 to better reflect its programs and services.
Today, SAFS serves moe than 1,000 people annually through programs that include:
Emergency Food, Harvest Food Program, Holiday Baskets, Utility and Rental Assistance , Information and Referral Services, The "Getting Ahead" Program, After School Programming, Summer Camp, and the Sylvania Youth Diversion Program.
