SYDP is a voluntary program for first time, non-violent, youth offenders 11-17 years of age (18 if still in high school) residing or offending in Sylvania City or Township. Successful completion of this family program results in no juvenile record of conviction for the youth.

During the youth’s 6 month contract agreement they will:

  • Adhere to a graduated curfew (spot checks are conducted)

  • Write a letter of apology to their victim(s)

  • Pay restitution

  • Maintain a designated grade point average

  • Complete community service hours

  • Submit to drug or alcohol testing if necessary

  • Adhere to a code of acceptable behaviors

  • The parents, in conjunction with the youth’s diversion officer, may choose to include other items in the contract such as forfeiture of driver’s license or restrictions on friendships or relationships that have proven unhealthy for the youth.

  • Both parents and youth must attend ten education classes one night per week.

The Parent Project® is a nationally recognized program that helps teach parents valuable skills to identify and change destructive adolescent behaviors through proven actions.

The SYDP Youth Education program helps youth identify their thinking patterns and address their own irresponsible decisions. Through positive, upbeat activities and individual and group self assessment, youth begin to set positive goals for their future.

This program is presented in partnership with the Sylvania City Police Department, the Lucas County Juvenile Court, the Sylvania Municipal Court, and the Sylvania Schools. Funding is provided by program fees and Subgrant # 2006-JG-C01-6420 awarded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Office of Justice Programs through the State of Ohio, Office of Criminal Justice Services.
